3 Tips For Flawless Curls
Regardless of what quality curler you purchase, curling your hair like a pro requires a learning curve. We recommend practicing a few techniques with your iron turned off to avoid burning yourself, and gain confidence with a few of these helpful curling basics.
1) Pick the right size iron
People assume a bigger iron = more relaxed waves and a smaller barrel = tighter curls. A 1” barrel is the perfect size for either shape of curl, as you can simply brush through the curls to have them relax. Also, leave the ends out of the barrel to keep them straight for a more beachy look.
2) Heat Setting
If your hair is processed or fine, opt for a lower setting of 200º. If you have a thick or coarse mane, you may use a higher setting of 300º or higher. Try to hold the iron on the hair between 5 and 10 seconds, or up to 20 seconds if your hair is curl resistant, or if a super tight ringlet is desired. The hotter the temperature, the better your hair will set so make sure to use a heat protectant!
3) Let your curls cool
To get a longer life span out of your curls, catch them in your hand after releasing them from the barrel and hold for 5 seconds. This allows the curl to cool in its natural shape and hold the style better. Let your locks cool fully before finger styling or brushing so that the curls won’t drop.
